Interview....

1. Would you ever consider moving away from Terrace?
In the winter, I'd love to live in Fiji. When its hot, I want to live in London. When its crazy, I want to live in Ireland. But seriously, I could never leave unless God spoke clearly to us that it was time. I love Terrace. This is my city!
2. Do you have any other career aspirations?
Photographer, Doula (Birth Coach), Artist, Sonographer
3. What was your first impression of your husband? Was there an instant attraction?
Well, I thought he wasn't very nice. But I thought he was really good looking. Before there was anything between us, we were incredible friends. We hung out all the time in the beginning. And we laughed a lot!
4. Have you ever questioned your faith? Do you have a defining moment when you knew you let Jesus into your heart?
I've questioned it a lot. Mark was talking to me about this recently. Can you have doubt & faith? I think you can. Doubt pushes you towards God. I don't think I would be human if I didn't question what I believed in. The reality is, He doesn't change, I do. But, if by questioning it, you mean wondering if it was the Truth, I never have felt that way. It was more the doubting that I was really forgiven, really saved.
One of the most defining moments was when Jesus spoke audibly to me. I was 18, living in Prince George for school. It was a Friday night & we were having worship at youth group. I was going through something really really hard. I was a mess, laying on the ground, bawling my face off. I all of a sudden heard somebody whisper in my ear, 'Ruth'. I looked up and the closest person was over 8 feet from me. I put my head down again & immediately heard it again, 'Ruth'
I felt the hair on my neck stand up and answered, 'Yes', my voice quivering & cracking. I knew in that moment that it was God. Then He said, 'Am I enough? Am I enough for you?' Up to that point in my life, I had restricted God to certain areas of rulership. He didn't have my whole life, He only had the parts that I had given , which weren't very many at all. At that moment, I felt was the turning point for me. He wanted all of me. He wanted to be enough. He wanted me to find my sufficiancy in Him alone. So, that was the moment that I let Him in completely.
5. What scares you?
Death. Not the after death part. Its the painful death part. And pretty much every animal. I'm scared of too much!
6. If you knew you couldn't fail, what is one thing you would do?
I would deliver a baby on my own or I would face a fear (ie. Shark cage) or maybe sing in front of a very large audience (to face my stage fright).
7. Where do you imagine yourself in 10 years?
In a home of our own, with our children (adopted of natural..?), building the church, whether thats here or someplace else, not sure & doing what we love.
8.What is one thing that you have always wanted to do, but have just never gotten around to it?
I want to go to on a holiday with Mark. Not a trip with people we know at the destination. But a real holiday with just Mark & I, away from everything we know!! Oh, how I dream!!
9. What was the best thing about growing up as a pastor's kid? and the worst thing?
The best thing was that I was told from a young age how great God is. Many P.K's (Pastors Kids) say that they saw one thing at church and the opposite at home. I NEVER saw that. My parents loved Jesus as much at home as they did at church. They lived christianity & that was the best thing. The worst part was the judgement I grew up with. I was put in a different category because my dad was a pastor. More was required of me. I was put under a microscope constantly. You can't imagine how many times I heard, 'I thought you were a pastors kid?'
10. Where is your favorite place to sit and think/read?
I love to go to the lake on a really warm windy day & lay on the grass, wrapped in a blanket. The wind does something to my soul...lol! I love it!

Interview???

I'm needing inspiration as I've been having a mental block for blog posts!

Raw

I'm on the road to change. I had success tonight when I was faced with the evil 'tell-all'. 6 successes actually! But yet, I didn't feel successful at all. I felt discouraged & overwhelmed with the huge challenge that lies before me. I feel vulnerable & scared that I won't make it; that I won't have victory. Enter Mark. Seriously, the man that was custom made just for me. Does he coddle me? Does he feed my emotional vent. Nope! Not for one second. The man is like my man-Jillian (if you watch Biggest Loser, you will know what I'm talking about)!! He stops me in my tracks & tells me that I need to stop right now! Of course, I'm stunned. He says, 'Stop dwelling on what you aren't and what you have way down the road! Stop telling yourself that you will never get there or that you somehow don't have what it takes! Do you know who you are? Who are you?'
I whisper, 'An overcomer?'
'You're what?'
'An overcomer' I say louder
'And what does God say that you can do?'
'I can do all things!'
'Through who?'
'Jesus Christ!'
'That what?'
'Gives me strength!'
'And has He started something in you?'
'Yes!'
'What does He say He will do?'
'He'll be faithful to complete it!'
'So who are you?
'AN OVERCOMER!'

Totally Clueless

Ok, this is a true story. Name of culprit has been changed to save protect hide their identity.

Clueless: Hi Ruth, i haven't seen you in ages
Ruth: Hi Clueless, I know, its been forever

Formalities ensue, time passes...

Clueless: So, when are you guys going to start having babies?
Ruth: Well, we've been infertile for 7 years and it breaks my heart everytime someone asks, we've been trying for 7 years!
Clueless: Well, you know the Bible says to be fruitful AND MULTIPLY!
Ruth: Really? Wow! I've never heard that before! What a revelation! True
Clueless: Cause, you know, you're not getting any younger!
Ruth: ya, i'm quite aware of it i'm not.

More verbal lashing follows....

Clueless: Well, it was so good to run into you. We should get together sometime!
Ruth: Not if I can help it. I need to keep my heart in tact as much as possible ya, for sure.

I'm not sure why I don't say what I'm thinking. But if you read my last post, you'll know all that is going to change. :)

Not one more second...

Last night, I had a moment. Well, several to be really honest.
And because since there is no better outlet than a blog to make a declaration, here it is...

I fear man! (not the 'male' race, just to be clear)

I worry what people think of me.
I go over conversations & encounters over & over in my head, dissecting every word or gesture,
thinking that the other person hates me or believes the worst about me.
I have very low self esteem when it comes to others.
I'm my own worst critic, because I figure others will judge me, so I might as well be way harder than they might be.

And because of this, I have wasted years & years crippled by this fear.
I doubt friendships & put a label on myself of unworthy or failure.
I don't step out when I feel God speaking to me.
I hide my face when I know He is calling.

When Jesus saved me, He saved completely
When He healed me, He healed completely
When He restored, He restored completely

When God sent his only Son, to die in my place, so that I would never have to face the judgement of my sin, He didn't do that partially.
He said, 'It is finished' meaning, that the grip of death was no longer on me.
I AM FREE!!

And it is up to me to walk in that freedom.
I had this picture in my head of Jordie when he broke his arm. After he had his cast removed, he still carried his arm in the position it was when the cast was on. Even though his break was healed, he wouldn't use his healed arm.
When a bird that was caged for his entire life is set free, it will often fly back into the cage because its familiar & safe.

This is how I have been with my life. God has given me freedom & with that freedom He has declared my worth & my identity. So why do I run back to the cage?
Because its what I know.
The thought of walking free is terrifying.
To really have the chains cut off & to be liberated from the cage forever is the unknown! The unknown is scary. The unknown is what we can't see.
Faith is also believing in what we can't see.
Is Faith the absense of Doubt? I don't believe it is.
I believe that Doubt pushes us to Christ.
Situations when I doubt the approval of man, God wants me to run to Him and find my security there!
If you have seen the Narnia movies, you will have heard the line that resonates in my heart,
"He is not a tame lion, but he is good!"

God did not promise us that we wouldn't hurt. He never gave the promise that when we came to Him, all pain would leave us & we would never be wounded again.
This has been my misconception.
Throughout the Bible, the one disease that is mentioned many, many times is leprosy.
Last night, someone read the scripture '..and he healed their leprosy'
Reading Paul Brandts Book, 'The Gift of Pain' I have found that leprosy was not what everyone thought it was. It is a deadening of nerves, so that people cannot feel anything...including pain.
It results in people burning their hands, cutting their feet or similar things like this. Infection sets in & you have deformed hands and feet as fingers, toes, even whole legs are lost because a person could not feel pain.

God knew what leprosy was. He knew that it was the loss of the ability to feel.
And He healed their leprosy! He gave them back their ability to feel pain. Was it because He is a tyrant and He looks down at the ones He created & finds joy in them suffering???
NO!
Its because He is a loving God, who knew from the beginning that pain would bring us to Him!
He knew that we must feel pain. It is part of life. Its ok to hurt.
Whats not ok, is to let the hurt control us.

This is what I have done.
I have held to offense. I've gripped my hurt tightly, refusing to let go.
And what have I become?
Broken & Useless.

But I will not waste one more second.
He saved me, healed me & restored me completely.
I feel pain because He designed me that way.
And everytime I hurt, I will go to Him, because He made me for Himself.
And I will be secure in His arms.
And I will leave this cage & never return!!!

Bog Dogs!!!

Well, I finally got my Bogs today!! I received a gift certificate for Christmas, but they had sold out instantly & so I had to wait until Feb :(
But oh, how the joy abounds now!!
I have suffered miserably with NO (and I mean no) proper winter gear. I own a fleece winter jacket (in this town? you're shaking your head I know)
3 year old knit mittens (again, in this town..i know!)
& runners for our deep snow months!!
What you should know about me is that when my feet get wet & cold, I'm not a happy person. I screech at unhuman levels & have temper tantrums.
But, all that is behind me!! And I am more than thrilled!
Bring on the slush & rain & puddles!
I am having dry feet forever...

Now I need to invest in a real jacket & mitts...:)

Side Story:
Jordie went with me to pick up my Bogs & if you know the store, you know that they have dogs there all the time.
As we were leaving, Jord says,
'I'm so glad we could visit with those Bog Dogs!!'
